Default Error while trying to browse cube - 12-15-2003 , 12:51 AM

The problem. I had extreme difficulty with AS. It locked every time I did something. I had fully usable cubes, although not perfect. I uninstalled AS to see if maybe that would provide smoother operation, reinstalled AS and SP3a. Now I can not view the cubes due to unspecified error. I have resetablished the data sources and the connections. When re-processing the cubes, they appear to be going through the process of rebuilding. At this point I can not even view the accompanying tutorial cubes. This is a team project that is due Thursday, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Default Error while trying to browse cube - 12-15-2003 , 10:12 AM

Hi,
i had a similar problem after installing SP3. Using Excel
as a client, I could see some Foodmart cubes and could
not see others. I found out that I could only see the
cubes that were processed after SP3a was installed.

You have to reprocess all cubes, make sure that you have
SP3a PTSLite.exe or PTSFull.exe installed on each of your
clients and access the cubes with "Microsoft OLEDB
Provider for Analysis Services 8.0".

Also checking on every user's rights on cubes might help.

I did a search for the PTSFull.exe; found it in 5 places, all part of SQL or a temp file. Started it and then went to AS. Saw the cube initialize before receiving a different type of error message from the unistaller; which I hadn't opened. Needless to say, I am back at square one with out passing go.

I unistalled again and re-installed. I applied the SP3a upgrades. I reset the ODBC connection. I opened Analysis Manager and everything looked great until I tried to browse a cube. I looked for ODBC for OLAP 8.0 and found that it is not there. Any suggestions

Default Does a new cube work? - 12-16-2003 , 01:24 AM

Have you tried creating a completely new, simple cube?
Including dimension modelling and all?
Can you see data in that cube after processing?

If the answer is yes, then maybe you have to remodel your
existing one's.

I have made some new cubes and can not view either them or the Foodmart cubes. I looked in the main SQL files for the msolap80.dll and .rll files. The version 7.0 files seem to be updating when I reinstalled Analysis Manager while the 8.0 required for OLAP are not being accessed.. My question then, should I remove all of the associated .dll and.rll files that are left after I uninstall Analysis Manager. I am just about ready to remove SQL and start over, however, my SQL came through the educational alliance and I need to wait to have my permissions reset to reinstall

Mike,
that sounds like a real problem. Of course you can try
removing the files you mention, but a full, clean
reinstall sounds best to me. Be sure to archive all cubes
before you do that. You might be able to restore them in
the new system.

When you talk about not "seeing" the cubes, are you
referring to excel or Analysis Manager?
In case of Analysis Manager, if you do not see any data
at all, it is usually unprocessed with AS indicating this.
If you see all your dimensions, but no data although you
know it should be there, this is often caused by flawed
modelling (false joins etc).
If you can rule these two out, my best bet is a full
reinstall.

Sorry, HTH Lutz

I did the full install, both SQL and Analysis Services. When the cube is done processing, after 150,000 plus rows, it still will not display due to an unspecified error. It did work before SP3a. I can't even view the Foodmart cubes, so I know it isn't totally an error on my cube design. With my deadline quickly approaching, this has become very consuming. I do appreciate your assistance.

Thanks
