Default Error procesing cube - 11-22-2004 , 03:39 AM

Hi all !!

I've got a problem procesing a cube, the error message saids: "Data source
provider error: Cannot save object inside a Decision Support Objects (DSO)
transaction."

I don't know which is the problem, because some days ago it works fine.

Thanks in advance.

I have had the same problem, but only when I use XP SP 2 with Oracle
or Sybase databases. Can you tell me what you use?

Hi,

we are using the DSO\XML Conversion Tool to deploy MS Analysis Service
databases and are experiencing the same error. The deployment works fine
without any error messages. Processing the database or the cubes works
fine too, but only once! Then we get the error message:

-2147221491 (8004000D) Invalid rectangle.
-2147220440 (80040428) Cannot save object inside a Decision Support
Objects (DSO) transaction.

Can someone explain why the Analysis Server behaves like this? Does
anyone know a fix? It would be great if we could get a statement from a
Microsoft developer on this one.

Regards,
Ralf

The "invalid rectangle" error isn't the real one. Analysis Manager (actually
DSO) can get confused sometimes in its error handling and the number gets
converted to a bad number -- then when the system goes to lookup that number
you get some weird descriptions, such as this "invalid rectangle" one. I
would recommend a couple of things:
1) verify that you have installed the Analysis Services SP3 download. There
are two distributions; one for the RDBMS and one for AS. Sometimes you do
one and forget that there is the other one.
2) make sure you have specified a system-wide processing log file. Bring up
Analysis Manager, right-click on the server name and select Properties, then
click on the Logging tab and specify a file (I typically choose something
simple, e.g. C:\OLAPProcessingLog.txt). See if there is a more descriptive
error logged in the processing file. Sometimes if the error is in AM or in
the DTS OLAP Processing task (or whatever), then DSO will write out the
correct error to the system-wide processing log.

Good Luck !
