Default Error browsing cubes after reboot - 05-03-2006 , 01:00 PM

I have a very strange problem, I hope someone here can help me with.

If the server reboots, and the first user connecting to it, tries to execute
a query against any of the cubes, they get an error message. If I try to
"browse" a cube though Management Studio, I get the following error:

"Errors in the OLAP storage engine: The version of the linked measure group,
with the name of 'HR_FACT', on the remote instance has changed. Repeat the
operation to relove the issue"

The only way to resolve the issue I have found, is to do a full process on
the entire database. Once the database has been processed fully, everything
works fine until the next reboot.

This is a development enviroment running on windows XP, with users
connecting via the msmdpump http connection, to analysis services 2005. Any
help or suggestions would be appreciated.

-Ryan

What happens if you just repeat your attempt of browsing the cube?

Edward.

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for your post.

From your description, my understanding of this issue is: When you browse
the cube after you reboot your server, you get the "The version of the
linked measure group, with the name of 'HR_FACT', on the remote instance
has changed. " error. If I misunderstood your concern, please feel free to
let me know.

According to the error message, would you please try to delete the measure
group 'HR_FACT' and then recreate it to have a try?

Also, I would like to know whether you applied the SP1.

Please let me know the result and I could provide further assistance.

Sincerely,

Thank-you for your response.
To answer the question in the above post first, trying the operation again
results in the exact same error.
The server did not have SP1 installed, however, I installed it this morning,
and that has made no difference.
I removed the linked measure group, and re-added it. That did not work
either.

Since I am running out of time to try to troubleshoot this issue, I deleted
the linked measure group from that cube, and replaced it directly with a new
measure group. That seemed to fix the problem. Unfortunatly, I am at a loss
to explain why the problem occured in the first place.

One more thing of interest, however, was in my troubleshooting, I found that
if I used Proclarity to connect the first time after the reboot (proclarity
SDK is used by our client software) I would recieve this error. However, if
the machine was rebooted, I could directly go into management studio and
browse the cube the first time. Perhaps the problem lies with proclarity and
not analysis server.

In any event, I have found a suitable workaround. Thank-you to those who
have responded.
