As Solution provider we used Cognos for our olap reporting.
We are thinking about changing to MS olap.

In Cognos Transformer you can design dynamic date
categories (like year-to-date, prior-year-to-date,...)
which are updated automaticaly in the reports.

Does something like this exist is MS 0lap?
..

There are multiple ways of accomplishing this.

1. Download the BI Accelerator at www.microsoft.com/solutions/bi and
examine the sample applications. They include one way to implement this.
2. Pick up George Spofford's book MDX Solutions and reference Periodicity
dimensions.
3. I believe Tom Chester has an article on his web site www.tomchester.net
that discusses a similar technique.
