Default DSO.Server Connect() times vary dramatically - 08-07-2003 , 12:03 PM

Calling the Connect() method of DSO.Server from two different W2K SP3
clients vary by an order of magnitue in performance (1.5 sec vs 15
secs) when connecting to the same server. What could cause this
behavior? How would I go about tracing the source of the delay?

Both clients have the 8.0.760.0 version of DSO installed. The ping and
DNS resolution times are both sub-second.

Mark,
Try copying big files between the clients and server to see if this is a
network issue.

Next, I would have traced the network traffic on the server with Netmon to
analyze the packet traffic between the clients and server. Of course this
requires some skill in network protocol analysis.

Is it conceivable that load balancing across network cards (NIC) could cause this?

Oh yes, I've seen that on Compaq servers. Anyway, I would be very surprised
if it was a AS problem so you should definitely look into some network
"debugging" first.
