Default Distinct count on Non-numeric felds - 02-08-2004 , 01:04 PM

Apparently Distinct Count cannot be used on non-numeric measure fields?
Is this true, or is there a way Distinct Count text char or varchar fields?
Any idea why this is so?
Thanks,
Jim
