Default Dimension Names - 07-12-2004 , 04:00 PM

Is there a way to change the caption of a dimension without actually changing the Name field? Using Pivot Tables in Excel the dimensions show up as "dmnStoresByMP" because that is what I named the dimension. To make the cube more user friendly I would like the end users to see "Store List" instead. Is there a way to do this without compromising my naming strategy?

Don't think you can do this in Analysis - the name is what the user sees ..
however

In a dimension you can give names to the levels ... even there is just one
level in the dimension - when putting the dimension on rows or columns it
will show the level names - an not the dimension name - however when having
it as page fields it still shows the dimension name.

Don't know if this is enough...

When naming dimensions I try to name them what the user is supposed to see
....

Another quick way to go (but not pretty) would be to change the names in
excel - but this is more an ad hoc possibillity - not if you want the
dimensions to be called something else permanently.
