Default Design Techniques for AS Writeback - 07-01-2005 , 10:01 AM

I am experiencing a degrade in response time with Writeback apps on SQL 2000
/ MSAS 2000. Response time is averaging around 45-60 seconds for
approximately a 4000 row sample update.

Is there any information on the best design techniques ( e.g. Molap
combined with Rolap partitions) or programming preferences (e.g.'cell set'
vs 'update cube') ?

The 2 constants of this app will be Excel as the frontend to AS on the
backend.

Does AS 2005 specifically impact the design of this?

Hi,

Thanks for your posting!

From your descriptions, I understood you would like to know the best
practise for AS writeback. If I have misunderstood your concern, please
feel free to point it out.

Generally speaking, you will have to talk about such scenario case by case
to determine which would be the best practise. performance issues are
difficult to troubleshoot on newsgroups. Here are some general articles for
the OLAP performance. I suggest that contact Microsoft PSS for
troubleshooting, as we need your detailed scenario to check further.
