Default AS Database Documentor - 12-16-2003 , 05:36 PM

Hi all,

Does anyone know of a tool for automating the
documentation of the structure of an AS database. For
example, listing in table or text format all of the
dimensions in each cube, and each level of each hierarchy
of all the dimensions?

Thanks for you suggestions,

Asa Monsey

Check the download center at www.microsoft.com around the end of the week or
early next week. There is a tool that will be available that will document
the structure of an AS database in a Word document. An announcement will be
made in this newsgroup when the tool is available for download.

Tom,

Wow, your tool is very thorough. Thanks. I have one
request. I am going to use this to help put together user
documentation. I am not familiar with the DSO object
model. Can you suggest a way I can adjust the macros so
that the resulting dimension documentation has one row of
sample data from the member levels?

Sean,

I am still interested in seeing what MS is going to
provide.

Thanks,
Asa Monsey

Probably your best bet for learning DSO is a utility that is part of the SQL
Server Resource Kit -- it reverse engineers DSO code (VB) from an existing
database.
