Default Database count support in Analysis Services 2005 - 09-14-2006 , 08:58 AM

We currently deploy separate databases for each client that we host data for
(currently 180 OLTP and 180 reporting databases).

We are looking to incorporate more analytic components into our offereing
and would like to implement AS2005. However, when tried to have 150+
databases in AS2000, the server could not perfom due to memory issues.

My question is: Is there any known reason we should not do this or are
there any known issues with implementing 200+ Analysis Services databases on
the same server.

Thanks,

you should be able to do this; but i would REALLY reccomend a
_CRAPLOAD_ of ram on an x64 machine.

and for the record; are you sure that you don't just want to build all
of this data into a single cube / database?

I'm not sure about the limitation of AS2005
but you can install more then 1 instance like you can do with SQL Server.
so this can raise the number of databases deployed (if there is a limit).

AS2000 load dimensions into memory when you starts the service, AS2005 don't
do this.
but there is more cache usage in 2005 compared to 2000
AS2005 keep in cache the calculation results, while in AS2000 the cache is
(by default) on the client side.
but thanks the x64 version for a better memory usage!

but I have not tested a so large number of databases, so I don't know how AS
handle this.

The memory problems should be less problematic in AS2005, since it does not
load shadow replicas of dimentions for each role. The best solution is always
to move to x64 or ia64 versions of the application.
