If you add a measure to a cube, you have to (of course) select a data type for the measure. One of the possibilities is wchar. Is it possible to add alphanumeric measures to your cube this way? I tried to add one, with aggregation set to "none", but when trying to deploy, I got the error message "Errors in the metadata manager. The data type of the 'Test' measure is not valid because the data type of the measure is a string type." In the model I have to build, alphanumeric facts would be extremely helpfull! Thank you in advance for your reaction |

Sorry. Measures have to be numeric, i.e. numbers than rolled up (using one of the aggregation functions, i.e. sum, min, max, count, etc.). Strings cannot do that. -- Dave Wickert [MSFT] dwickert (AT) online (DOT) microsoft.com Program Manager BI SystemsTeam SQL BI Product Unit (Analysis Services) -- This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. Thanks Dave. It could make sense in certain situations to have alphanumeric measures, which of course cannot aggregate! And I thought I heard somewhere this would be possible in 2005. We had hoped to add string measure in AS2005, but this got cut. Could you please elaborate on the scenarios for which you would require such support? This could be very helpful in our evaluation for whether or not to support this feature for the next release.
