Default Is the .cub file format documented anywhere? - 10-02-2003 , 10:12 PM

After spending the entire day Googling around, I've given up looking.
Is the .cub file format documented anywhere?

I'm looking to create offline browsable local cube files for viewing
from within Excel, but I'm using MS SQL Server (or any other MS product
other than Excel, for that matter). So, I'm looking for the file format
so I can generate the .cub files myself.

I know Excel can generate .cub files, but the process needs to run on a
non-Windows based server to generate .cub files as part of a scheduled
nightly job.

Any help anyone can offer is much appreciated. Thanks.

There are documented APIs how to generate local cubes (see CREATE
CUBE/INSERT INTO, CREATE GLOBAL CUBE etc).

There are 3rd party products which specialize on automation of creating
local cubes - www.localcubetask.com is the most known in this area.

ProClarity Professional will also walk you through creating a local
".cub" data store on your workstation.

NOT

I just realized I omitted a very important word in that sentence, in my
original posting.

It seems like ALL the products out there are Windows-based. I'm looking
for tools that will run on Linux or Solaris and allow me to produce
..cub files.

I'm probably out of luck. Oh well.
