Default Create OLAP Cube through Access - 07-13-2004 , 10:14 AM

Hi,

I have a Microsoft Access database and I need to
create an OLAP Cube (which my company uses in Microsoft
Project).

I don't have any experience with SQL server or Cubes.
Can I just add the reference library, create the cube
object and populate it through Access, or do I need to
connect my Access database to an SQL database to create
the cube?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm really
stuck on this issue, thanks.

You don't need SQL Server to work with Analysis Services. You can bild
a cube with an Access database as the datasource. In fact, the
FoodMart sample cube/database that comes with the Analysis Services is
based on Access.

All you have to do is install Analysis Service, Create a new Database,
then when creating a new cube or dimension create a new datasource
using the "Microsoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider" and point it to your
access database or use "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers".
