Default create cube statement. - 09-08-2003 , 07:09 PM

Are there any plans for extending the functionality of create cube statement
to global cubes?

Thanks,

I only want to use the MDX create cube statement to create global cubes, not
only local ones.

If by global cubes you mean server cubes, then it is not possible in
Analysis Services 2000. We will look into it for the next release.
Hopefully there is no confusion with CREATE GLOBAL CUBE syntax which allows
creation of session cubes.

Yes, I mean the server cubes. I know about create cube and create global
cube statements. What I want to do is just create a server cube from
scratch. Of course dimensions, measures and aggregations should be created
with MDX, too. When do you think approximately this feature can be
implemented? Because right now, because there is no DDL in MDX for creating
a server cube from scratch, we had to use XML files and process them with a
program using DSO, which we're not very happy with because it's not standard
and we might have to change this in future releases due to changes in
Analysis Services. I just wish that we could create cubes just like we
create tables on SQL Server, with a create cube statement and I believe many
people would wish that.

Thanks,

You are correct that this is on the wish list of many people. I cannot
comment neither on the feature set of the next release, nor on its
timelines.
The only thing I can tell, is that we are aware of this feature request.

Thanks,
Mosha.
