Default Connecting a remote cube with Excel - 10-27-2004 , 11:31 AM

Hello

I want to configure an AS on the internet with different roles and
distribute Excel files using PTS to clients. However excel doesn't connect
over http when I set a specific role in the oqy file. Any ideas what to do?

Thanks
Plamen

A little more detail:
For the tests I use sql server 2000 developer sp3 (sp3 for analysis
services, too); Windows is 2000 Pro sp4; Excel is from Office Pro 2003
I have tried to connect both from Excel (through MS Query) and MDX Sample
application.
It never succeeds through TCPIP, which I suppose is by design.
When connected through HTTP is succeeds only if there is a database role
associated with Everyone. And it always connects to that role, with no
difference of what is entered as user id in the multidimensional connection
dialog box.

I also tried the Analysis Services Thin Web Client from sql resource kit bit
didn't manage to connect it to anything else but Foodmart database.
What I need is a quick client setup with the ability to show some reports
before delving in the depth of ADOMD and writing a dedicated client
application. Is there any way to do such a setup?

Thanks
