Default Connecting to Analysis Manager - 08-19-2003 , 02:00 AM

Hi

Im trying to solve the following problem:

I need to be able to connect to analysis services on a server, however on
this server im neighter in the Administrator group nor am I in the Olap
Administrator group. I have given myself access to the databases in
Enterprice manager, both the databases and the msmdrep (Just to make sure
that that wasnt causing problem).

But no matter what i do, i cannot connect

I get the following error msg :

Cannot connect to the Analysis server on computer 'Server1'
Connection to the server is lost.

---------------

I have tried to add myself to administrator group or Olap administrator
group, then i can connect to the server just fine. But i need to be able to
connect to the analysis service without doing this.

If anyone ever ran into this error before, any help would be greatly
appriciated. Or even how you worked arround this problem would be insanly
helpfull.

If you cannot get yourself registered as local OLAP-
administrator and inherit the rights that come with it,
you should not be able to connect to AS.
That is not an error, but a security feature which makes
sense.

Thanks for the reply Lutz,

I was hoping that someone knew a way. Possible custom user rights which
would allow me to connect to the analysis manager without being eighter Olap
administrator or Administrator. I was hoping that with lesser user rights i
would be able to preforme some, but not all tasks, in analysis manager.

Anyone else was in this bind, and figured out a way to solvve/work arround
it?

Hi,
as far as i know, an olap administrator can always access
all analysis servers installed on a machine if he is
member of olap administrators group. There is no way to
create an "olap admin limited to analysis serverX".

Normal users can just see or access the databases where
they have rights to at least one cube.

I have seen earlier postings concerning this. You might
want to check.
