Default compare two periods - 11-03-2004 , 03:31 AM

greetings,

in my cube, i need to compare net change over two periods

dimensions period1 period2 difference

what would be the easiest way to do that? i can't just add
two date dimensions, cause by default they'll crossjoin and only show
result which matches both, right? so how should i approach this..

thank you.

Are you using any specific client tool to display this?

I've built a specific report to handle this problem but it's
fundemetally Excel based.

You're right that if you add both Time dimensions to the cube you'll run into
issues, but using virtual cubes it is possible to have one working Time
dimension and one which has no effect on the base data and which can be used
only for your calculated member. See here for details

The clients are using Excel to display the cubes.. so your solution could
work perhaps.

Hmm, this sounds interesting, but I believe it only gives solution for one
period.. for second one I would need 2 more Time dimensions, and I can
already see it getting messy..
