Default Client Tools to read and query a MS OLAP Cube - 06-21-2005 , 02:20 PM

Hi,

Is there a software suite (for MS or not) available out there to query
an OLAP cube on AS2000? My users are using Excel PivotTable but they
want more sophiticated access to the Cube so that they can formulate
customized and ad-hoc queries (in MDX) as needed. Even something as
primitive as Microsoft Query (which allows users to put in SQL
statements to query a relational database) is OK. Is there a MDX
equivalent of MS Query?

Thanks.

Here is a list of some 90 client tools for AS2K. Some (many) of them satisfy
your requirements.

Mosha

A few things with your list of products that work with AS and other OLAP
platforms.

1. How does a vendor get on you list as there are quite a few that work with
AS that I am aware of that are not even mentioned on your list? Some with
some great clients and applications and with some very advanced features and
user stories. These products are not even covered by the other OLAP
commentary on the market.

2. Can you detail what determines the inclusion of products in your relevant
categories for Analysis Tools, BPM applications, Query & Reporting,
Controls, Thin Clients, Local cubes, Documentation and Applications -
Internet Traffic Analyzing System.

3. How does a product get classified into numerous of these categories if
this is the case and not represented on your list?

4. Could you also organise your list into alphabetical order so as not to
show any preference to any vendor or application. I am sure Microsoft
Partners would prefer this.

I look forward to your reply and your considertion.
