Default Client tool for microsoft Analysis service - 10-15-2004 , 02:23 PM

I am a regular visitor of this group. Right now I am trying to find
the best client tool for analysis of cube made in microsoft analysis
services. My office is using ASP.NET/ SQL Server. It would be of
great help if somebody helps me in finding the such tools.

Thanks

I really think that the best option is actually Excel 'cause everybody knows
how to work with it.
The best partner tools would be Panorama and Proclarity software (personal
opinion).
The one in qich users have less trouble is cognos upfront (PowerPlay WEB),
and you can connect to cubes using the powerplay connect tool (this option
wont read calculated members nor some other stuff so I don't recommend it)

Well, in my opinion, Excel is just to good and easy to try anything else.

this discussion can go forever

good luck.

p.s. Some tools have special features like O2olap has the writeback enabled
in excel!!! very good for Forecasting, budgeting... each tool has it good and
bad side...

You need to consider if the front-end has to be thin (web) or thick and the
amount of money you're
willing to spend.

Thin front-end could be reportportal which uses xmla (reportportal.com) -
besides a really thin olap report it has built in owc possibility with
drillthrough support (and many other report types) - there are other choices
on the market but the price is lower on this one

Thick front-ends could be excel add in whith drill through, write back and
free form possibilites - this is free of course

On our website www.gmsbv.nl you find more info and you can order

If you're looking for a free tool, check this out:
http://i.zpm.fer.hr/rex
but this works only over XMLA (www.xmla.org).
However, you can download XMLA for free and it is easy to set up.

Igor
