Default Client System Requirement for OLAP - 06-08-2004 , 10:21 PM

I have built a OLAP cube with the follwoing dimensions and measures

Dimension
Item (1 level, about 5000 members
Item Category(2 levels, 100 members for parent level and about 5000 members for leaf members
Branch Code (1 level, about 470 members
Branch (5 levels, each level contains 2 to 5 members except the last level, about 5000 members for leaf members
Supplier (1 level, about 1200 members

Measure
Quantity, Amount, Unit Pric

I am using Excel as a front-end. When I drag "Supplier and Item", "Branch code and Item" or "Branch code and Supplier", it requires a lot of time to return the results. Sometimes, my computer is "dead"! What is the minium requirement of computer in order to extract such large amount of data? Can somebody give me a reference?

Check in Database Role Manager, Edit your Role and
see "Enforce on". Do you prove it?

Sharon.

Hi Sharon,

Just say your post and am curious about what you mean with "Do you prove it?" What is you take on the enforce on client or server setting and how does it affect performance?

Hi! Sharon. First of all, thanks for your help. Since I haven't created database role yet,it is blank in the database manager role. Also, I don't understand why "database manager role" can affect the speed of extracting data. Can you briefly explain why? Thanks!
