Default changing MOLAP ro ROLAP - 01-06-2006 , 01:18 PM

I have a cube, with few partitions (the ones that are created automatically,
nothing I made), and few dimensions.

I want to change it to ROLAP (currently MOLAP). I notice I can go in the
management studio and change each partition individually, and the cube, and
the dimensions... but that means about 11 individual changes (click
properties, change the thing, save...) isn't there an easier way to just
say: change everything to ROLAP ??

thanks

Not that I know of. There is lots of DSO/AMO happening under the covers so
it has to be done via AM/SSMS -- which means that it is UI-based. If this is
AS2K5, the sometimes you can use multi-select on the summary panel and then
change things that way. It might work in this case, but I haven't done it
personally.

Hi,

You should write small script, unsing AMO (for AS2005) or DSO (for AS2000)

Thanks, i will check that out...

Does it even make sense to change only some of the partitions or dimensions
to ROLAP, and others to MOLAP? or have some at MOLAP-delay 10 min and other
MOLAP delay 4 hours? I don't understand how it will make sense to run
reports that get some of the data from one period of time and some of the
data coming from another period of time... it seems like a huge consistency
problem where I will not be able to trust the numbers I get in the
reports...

do you understand my problem?

also, if I change it all to some kind of automatic MOLAP, lets say 30 min,
can my system be running (writing data to the transactional DB) while the
MOLAP is being built? I get all kind of strange errors when I run MDXs after
the 30 min mark...

thanks for the help!
