Default Change Data Sources - 08-22-2006 , 12:58 PM

I have an installation of SQL2000 SP4 on Windows Server 2003 SP1 with
Analysis Services SP4 running.

I have 2 instances running, one for test and one for production. I can copy
cubes between the two instances but I need to change the data source. I
have tried creating a second data source but when I edit a cube and check
the basic properties, I can see the data source name but I cannot edit the
value (grayed out). I have also tried to go into the partitions and change
the data source, but while I can select the second data source from the
list, it does not actually change the value.

I tried searching BOL but could not find any reference to my particular
issue.

Does anyone have a way that I can change the data source with out recreating
the cubes?

Thanks

Greg Pagan

Hi Greg,

as far as I understand your question I think we have a similar situation.
You won't be able to change the datascource from one to another, but you can
change the datasource itself. Just try to modify in the datasource
properties the values for server and database. It should work - at least I
hope it does. We do it this way.

Steven,

Thanks for the reply. That appears to work, it just is strange that the
literal values do not change but the physical location does change. Could
get to be confusing but it is certainly easier that recreating the cubes.

Give your data sources in AS2000 logical names not tied to your server or the
database you are connecting to. That way you would only need edit the
datasource and change the uderlying details. This is how its done in AS2000.
