Default Can't find MDX Sample Application in SQL server 2005 - 12-18-2005 , 08:02 PM

Dear all,

I am going to test MDX language against the AdventureWorksDW sample
database.

According to a tutorial on Internet (for SQL server 2000) :

http://www.databasejournal.com/featu...0894_1495511_3

Quote:
......................
Go to the Start button on the PC, and then navigate to Microsoft SQL Server -> Analysis Services, then to the MDX Sample Application.
We are initially greeted by the Connect dialog, shown in Illustration 1 below.

The illustration above depicts the name of one of my servers, RAPHAEL, and properly indicates that we will be connecting via the MSOLAP provider (the default).
......................
Under Anjalysis Services, there is only "Deployment wizard"
Under Document and Tutorials -> Samples, there is an install program
and an HTML doc.
non of them looks like somewhere to run MDX.
I have checked both client and server box, the same

I can connect to database engine of the server, and I can see both
AdventureWorks and AdventureWorksDW. I can also connect to Analysis
Service of the server, but there is no database.

Could anyone point me to the right direction? Thanks a lot.

In 2000, the only place to write MDX queries out of the box was in the
Sample Application.

In 2005, you can write your MDX queries in Management Studio -- the same
place where you can write your SQL queries.

In this article
(http://www.databasejournal.com/featu...894_3561696_3),
Bill Pearson shows how to use Management Studio to work on MDX in his
series, just as he did with the sample app a few years ago.

BTW, you'll need to deploy the AdventureWorks Analysis Services database to
get it on your server. For help with that, see the online help:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143804.aspx:

To deploy the Adventure Works DW analysis services project

1.. Make sure that the AdventureWorksDW and Adventure Works DW databases
have been installed.

2.. Make sure Analysis Services has been installed.

3.. From the SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio toolbar,
click File, point to Open, and then click Project/Solution.

4.. Browse to <drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\90\Tools\Samples\AdventureWorks Analysis Services Project, select the
file Adventure Works.sln, and then click Open.

5.. From Solution Explorer, right-click Adventure Works DW and select
Deploy or Process.
