Default can't find cubes in MDX sample application - 10-15-2003 , 05:38 AM

Hi,

I have created many cubes in the analysis manager.
However, when i open the MDX sample application, I could
not find all the cubes in the MDX sample application. Do i
have to do something to add those cubes in.

Normally i use the MDX sample application to generate the
local cube.

Any clue?

Thanks a million

Two things that I can think of may be causing this:
1) security - if you don't have permisions to the cubes you won't be able to
see them
2) old client - old versions of the PivotTable services client will not be
able to see cubes that contain some new features not understood by the old
version

Hope this helps,

Hi Matt,

Thank you for your reply. But i don't think is any of
them. I am the administrator and have rights to all the
cubes I have created. Secondly, the MDAC version is the
latest one. In addition, I am not referring to the Excel
Pivot.

Anyone has any clue?

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Freger,
When I was at TechEd .. I had the same problem and it was to do with a
registry setting that Analysis Services incorrectly set during the
install to do with the connection string that the MDX Sample used ..
setting version 2 compatibility from reccolection ..

I am at home right now but I will have a look at the PC in the office
tommorow to see if I can glean more ..

If I can't remember or find it .. I can remember the Microsoft guy who
fixed it and I will ask him ..

It will probably turn out to be something else but at least I will
check for you.

Cheers

Mark

Freger,
I was talking about this with one of our developers in the office and
it seems as if my recollection was not entirely right .. its something
to do with what visual studio does when you install it.

The thing that fixed it for us was looking at the registry and
checking the following values ... I hope that this solves it for you.

There are 3 registry folders In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE ->
CLASSES called:

MSOLAP
MSOLAP.1
MSOLAP.2

In each on of them is a clsid folder with a default string value.

The value for MSOLAP -> clsid should be the same as MSOLAP.2 -> clsid

Thanks

Mark
