Default Can't explorer data - 12-29-2005 , 10:19 PM

Dear all,

When I am practicing Analysis service 2005 tutorial lesson 4, I
encounter an error when trying "explore data" in Development Studio.
Microsoft SQL Natvie Client
Login timeout expired
An error has occured while establishing a connection to the server.
When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be cause by the
fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote
connections.
Named pipe provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [2].
................................ Retry, Cancel

My environment:
Windows 2000 pro SP4 + SQL client 2005 as client
Windows 2000 adv. server SP4 + SQL server 2005 server as server

I can do build -> deploy, browser -> re-connect, etc..
when I try "explore data" on any table in any data source views, this
error occurs.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

ha, I have figured out the reason...
Notice that the analysis service databases are different from the
database engine databases..
when I "explore data" on data source view tables, we are connecting to
the database engine rather than analysis service, the procedure:
1.double click on the Adventure Works DW.ds of Data Sources (not Data
Source Views)
the data source designer window is open
2.click Edit... button on the General tab under connection string, the
Connection Manager window is open
3.modify the server name
that's it!!!
