Can't connect to Analysis Services - PLEASE HELP! -

Hi, all. I have installed (and re-installed several times) Analysis
Services onto my XP SP2 machine. Once installation completes, I try
right away to use AS either via Analysis Manager or the MDX Sample
Application, but I'm prevented by what is probably a config problem.
If anyone knows what either app does when first connecting (what
objects it instantiates, libraries it requires, etc), PLEASE let me
know - I've been fighting for hours to get this working and am
out of ideas (nothing on Google or MSDN either, as far as I can tell).
Here are the details of what happens. (If these errors are logged in
detail anywhere, please let me know where. There's nothing in Event
Viewer, nor are there log files as far as I can tell.)
In the case of Analysis Manager, a banner appears "Connecting to the
Analysis Server", then a dialog:
-----------------------------------------------
Analysis Manager
ActiveX component can't create object
[OK]
-----------------------------------------------
In the case of the MDS Sample app, a dialog appears:
-----------------------------------------------
MDX Sample Application
Unable to open connection.
ActiveX component can't create object
[OK]
-----------------------------------------------
In both cases the dialogs appear *immediately*, whether the OLAP
service is running or not, and whether my firewall is running or not. |
