Default Cannot Use Multiple Data Sources ???? - 02-10-2004 , 02:05 PM

I have a database defined in Analysis Server that contains 3 Data Sources,
[db01].A, [db02].B and [db02].C

I have created a cube using a fact table from [db02].C When I go to
insert tables into the cube definition, the "New Data Source" button is
grayed, and I cannot find any other way to add tables from the other
(non-fact) data sources [db01.A or [db02].B The only data source in the
"tree" is [db02].C

What I want to do is to use pre-existing dimensions from other databases and
servers. How do I do this?

This is correct and by-design. Analysis Services 2000 can only connect and
use only one data source at a time. Traditionally the best workaround it so
create views in one database which pull data from the other two. I recognize
that this is not what you wanted as an answer. This is a well-known, albeit
clumbersome, limitation of the current design and we are well aware of the
pain that it will cause you.

Thanks for the quick answer. You are correct, it's not the answer I was
looking for, but at least I can stop wasting my time looking, and I can
certainly use Views as a work-around as you suggest. And it is always nice
to know that other people share my pain <g>.
