Default Cannot open connection to OLAP Server "Server-Name" - 02-05-2004 , 08:24 PM

I have a question about OLAP Server and hope to get some
suggestions.
The Hard Disk of the SQL Server in our company was damaged
a few weeks ago. There's 2 Hard Disks in the SQL Server,
and the damaged one is the one where the data sources are.
The other one where the SQL service and OLAP service are
is Okay. But after we restore the backup of the databases,
and open the OLAP MMC, we found a big problem. Below is
the message -- Cannot open connection to OLAP
Server "Server-Name".
I cannot find any information about the message, so I hope
I can get some solutions here. Thank you very much for
your help.

Hi Anthea:
You say that your disk is bad, and you fix the database, But I doubt
that if you change the bootup disk or restore the necessary register file?
ASAIK, the OLAP Server need regidter information and if you change the
register, you machine may not work correctly.
The folowing KB article may give you some help information

Hi,
Thank you for your suggestion. We have an old SQL server, and we found
there's a database which is damaged in the new SQL server. All we do is
just backup the old database from the old server and restore it to the
bad SQL server.
Should I still have to modify the registry file? And our environment
is NT4.0 & SQL7.0

Best Regards,
Anthea

My problem seens to be solved, thank you very much. I'm reprocessing the
Cube now.

At first I cannot delete( or rename) the file Databasename.odb, my
colleague found after I shutdown the OLAP service, I should restart the
Server, then I can rename the odb file.
After I rename the odb file, I found the OLAP service can be started
normally. Somehow I still cannot connect to the server, but the message
had been changed into "Cannot connect the the repository OLAP
server:'ServerName'".
And one thing came into my mind, there's a security file named
'msmdrep.mdb' in the documents you mentioned. May be the file is damaged
too. I found the file used now is 0kb , and there's another old one in
other disk, so I copied the old one to the data folder used now. Luckyly
, I found I can connect to the server now and now the cube is been
reprocessed.
Thanks for your help very much.

Best Regards,
Anthea
