Hi, I get the same problem nevertheless what client do I use, I always get an error: Cannot load databases, version may not be valid The enviroment is: Win 2003 server without SP1 Then I installed SP4 for Analysis Services 2000, before there was no SP applied on AS. After that the error appears at every attempt of connecting to OLAP cubes. I got an article on MS support site KBID 903030, but I wonder if this is the case, I even got the hotfix an applied it but it didn't do the update of files as it is described in article. Anyone? Do you get this error when browsing the cubes on the server? If not, it may be that you need to update the OLAP provider on the client machines. In the folder where SP4 unpacked to there will be a folder containing files called PTSLite.exe and PTSFull.exe (They both contain the OLAP provider, the full version also contains other MDAC components). If your cubes can be browsed on the server, try running PTSLite on one of your clients and see if that fixes your issue. -- Regards Darren Gosbell [MCSD] Blog: http://www.geekswithblogs.net/darrengosbell In article <eJgDZoi$FHA.208 (AT) tk2msftngp13 (DOT) phx.gbl>, andrej.hudoklin (AT) add (DOT) si says... Hi, I've already tried that. I've installed the PTS from SP4 on the client and doesn't help. The thing is that I can't even see the OLAP databases. Can not connect to AS at all. But on the server itself works fine. BR, Andrej "Darren Gosbell" <jam (AT) newsgroups (DOT) nospam> wrote in message news:MPG.1e093bf7ac82381e989810 (AT) news (DOT) microsoft.com... What are you using as your client application? I assumed you were using Excel or some sort of query tool, but if you are attempting to connect using a remote copy of Analysis Manager, then the PTSxxx.exe files will not help you. You would have to run the full SP4 install on the client in order to get the most up to date version of the DSO library on the client. -- Regards Darren Gosbell [MCSD] Blog: http://www.geekswithblogs.net/darrengosbell In article <##nZGk8$FHA.3852 (AT) TK2MSFTNGP14 (DOT) phx.gbl>, andrej.hudoklin (AT) add (DOT) si says... Darren, I use Excel and ProClarity as client. I've installed PTSFull.exe as you can not install SP4 on the client. In the past I've always installed the SP on the client, but with SP4 Microsoft implemented a some kind of check and you need to have AS installed on machine if you want to install it. I also made check of components, dll... And the files on client are newer than on server. Client has SP2 for XP installed when server does not have installed SP1 for win2003 yet. BR, Andrej |

Can you run through the sequence of events for me? That may help narrow down what is causing the issue. Did you start with no SP for AS and you were able to connect from the client PC? Or have you not connected to the server using the client in question? Was installing SP4, the only thing that happened? If SP2 for Win XP was installed on the client at about the same time have you tried temporarily disabling the firewall? It sounds like you have tried all the obvious steps. You do not need to install the full SP on a normal client only on the server or a PC with the admin tools. The PTSxxx.exe files are enough for a normal client. -- Regards Darren Gosbell [MCSD] Blog: http://www.geekswithblogs.net/darrengosbell In article <eHO3LR$$FHA.4012 (AT) TK2MSFTNGP10 (DOT) phx.gbl>, andrej.hudoklin (AT) add (DOT) si says... Then I've wondered if maybe there is a problem in Remote Repository Connection String. As you might know it is encrypted and at installation of SP4 there could be some change on it. But as it seems that is not the cause. |

I'm thinking of reinstallation of AS. The biggest problem is that this is production server and is needed 24/7. Do you have a spare machine that you could use install either the client |

Then I've wondered if maybe there is a problem in Remote Repository Connection String. As you might know it is encrypted and at installation of SP4 there could be some change on it. But as it seems that is not the cause. No, it would not be this. The remote repository connection string only gets accessed when using Analysis Manager (or a DSO application) remotely. I'm thinking of reinstallation of AS. The biggest problem is that this is production server and is needed 24/7. Do you have a spare machine that you could use install either the client or another AS server on. I am thinking that this will allow you to prove whether the problem is the client or the server. (I am slightly more suspicious of problems on the client than the server) One other long shot is to try connecting via using the v7 driver (the one without a version number) I have seen rare situations where the v7 and v8 providers got "cross-registered" but usually installing the latest PTS fixes this. -- Regards Darren Gosbell [MCSD] Blog: http://www.geekswithblogs.net/darrengosbell |
