Default Cannot connect to AS2005 - 02-10-2006 , 10:59 AM

I am not able to connect to Analysis Services 2005 after install. My
installation is on a Win XP with 2GB of RAM. I installed it with the
default instance. It did not work when I used a named instance so I
de-installed the named instance and re-installed with the default instance.

I can see the database but get the error message when I try to connect to
the Object Brwoser in MS SQL Server Management Studio:<< A connection cannot
be made. Ensure that the server is
ruuning(Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient)>>. I have verified that the
server is ruuning.

I get the error message when I try to process a dimension <<The project
could not be deployed to the 'localhost' server because of the following
connectivity problems: A connection cannot be made.>>. I get the same
message when I change localhost to the actual server name.

Any help is appreciated.

Alfred,

All the default setting for deployment (certainly samples and such)
point to the default instance, so if you want to deploy to a named
instance you need to modify the properties of the project or solution
in BI development studio.

On the properties tab of the project (solution explorer) choose
deployment from the configuration properties and change the Target
Server to the correct named instance. After that you should be able to
deploy.

Dirk,

Thanks much for your suggestion.

I changed Target Server for the deployment to the correct instance
'Koforidua\SQL2005Dev' and I get the following error when I try to process
dimensions and facts:

<<Error 1 The project could not be deployed to the 'Koforidua\SQL2005Dev'
server because of the following connectivity problems : A connection cannot
be made to redirector. Ensure that 'SQL Browser' service is running. To
verify or update the name of the target server, right-click on the project
in Solution Explorer, select Project Properties, click on the Deployment
tab, and then enter the name of the server.>>

Incidentally, I am able to see the correct instance 'Koforidua\SQL2005Dev'
in BI development studio but I get the following error when I try to connect
to the object browser:

<<TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
A connection cannot be made to redirector. Ensure that 'SQL Browser' service
is running. (Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient)
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it
(System)

Sorry I left out one additional information. I have checked and both the
Analysis servicer and SQL Browser services are started.

Dirk,

I am now able to connect to, process and browse dimensions and facts on AS
2005.

Interestingly enough, I resolved it using Edward Melomed's response to
Jerome's posting RE: AS2005: Can't access named instance /sqlbrowser issue.
That solution did not work for me the first time around and that is why I
created the posting. It worked this time after I re-installed SQL Server
2005. Just thought you may want to know.

Thanks again for taking the time to give me the suggestion. Alfred
