Hi,

I am new to this. I have an installation of sql server 7 running on one
machine. Now i have to install OLAP Analysis Manager but i want to
install it on a different machine can i do that. Also are they are
issue that i need to be concerned about by doing this. I do not want
anything to happen to the sql server ( thats the reason i want to
install it on a different machine).

No, AS has to be installed on the same machine of SQL Server. However
nothing happens to the SQL server installation, as AS is installed as a
different service with its own components. The default repository is on
an Access (!) database that the installation creates in the OLAP
install directory, if you want you can migrate to a sqlsrv database.
All above referred to sql 2000 (sql 8), don't know if applies to sql 7.

Yes, You can install on different computers.
But Do you talk about the OLAP Server or only the administration console?

if its the OLAP Server, then you have to pay for a new SQL Server license!
The admin. console only can be deployed without restriction.

a) if you have one license you've got to put them on one server
b) we have stand alone olap servers-- lots and lots of them

i would reccomend putting developers' edition on desktops where you
want to do development; it's only $49.

ps - what are you doing on SQL 7? do you have db larger than 4gb? i
would reccomend taking a good hard look at SQL Server 2005 Express
edition.

addendum: what above is referred to licensing side, not to technical
side of the topic.
