Default Can I install SP4 client on NT4 Workstation? - 02-10-2006 , 04:22 AM

Hi

I'm having BIG problems with Analysis Manager (I've seen it called
Paralysis Manager, and the name is apt) in this setup:

Client: NT4 Workstation
Server: Win 2000 Server
Analysis Services V.8 (no service packs)

If I do anything at all in Analysis Manager on the client - for
example, just change the Description of a dimension and save it - AMgr
maxes out the client machine's CPU, and takes about 3 minutes before it
responds again.

I want to apply Analysis Services SP4 to the server and client - read
right through the Readme, and it says "not supported on NT4". But it's
not clear whether this is true for the client components. Can anyone
tell me?

thanks

Seb

you have to install the same version of the client tools.. SP-nothing
on your client; of course you're going to have a hard time

i reccomend installing sql server developers' edition on your desktop;
fill relational and analysis services.. to make sure you're up to
date.. or if you just run through the olap client tools installation;
and then run SP4 (for analysis services) on your desktop

developers' edition is only $49.. i mean.. so uh.. if it would save you
15 minutes work; then it would be worth it

I wish it was simpler
i dont think that msft does a very good job of making this PRACTICAL
and i wish that Microsoft would just release client tools for
relational; and client tools for analysis services-- as a single,
simple, current download
