Default Can calc cells be used instead of writebacks as per Tom Chester's article - 09-02-2005 , 08:19 PM

Having read this interesting articles of Tom Chester on SQL Pass just
wondering as the statement says calc cells actually replace the values
in the cube.

http://www.sqlpass.org/news/02May/in...pagemode=print

So be good design of calc cells can we implement similar to the
writeback functionality if calc cells can be made dynamic.

Thanks
Karen

I would worry about performance - but I too have seen an article saying it
can be done.

In a parent child dimension you can actually write back to non leaf.

Writing back with lots of dimenison combinations where you have to allocate
some of it can give trouble as well - but with a parent child you could
perhaps avoid this because you're already writing back to a leaf member when
choosing the member just below the all member.

cells for writeback especially how do I can the calc cells at runtime

An article where perhaps over-stating it...

http://sqljunkies.com/weblog/hitachi...2/20/5651.aspx

It just mentions the possibility - not much on how to go about doing it....
