Default Attribute Hierarchy Default Member Error - 03-22-2006 , 10:22 PM

In SSAS 2005, attempting to set the Default Member for a dimension attibute,
which would become the Default Member for the corresponding hierarchy, fails.

In BI Studio, the Set Member Default dialog, that you launch from the
elipsis in the Default Member property, always seems to have an error
displaying the attribute's hierarchy to choose the member (despite the fact
that you can see it in every other display), or if you use an MDX expresssion
to define the default member, it appears to work fine selecting it, but
processing the dimension fails on it. It claims that the chosen member is not
part of the hierarchy - but it is.

Can you reproduce this problem in the Adventure Works cube? I was able
to change the default Product - Category to "Bikes", reprocess the cube
and verify the change - where I encountered an error was in trying to
change the default member for the Date - Calendar Year. This looks like
it's due to the Date dimension playing multiple roles.
