Running Analysis 2000 sp3a & SQL Server 2000 sp3a developer versions on local machine. When entering the cube wizard thorough the Analysis Manager application and straight after the first stage of selecting a fact table the Analysis Manager application will crash to desktop with no error message reported in any sql/analysis server log files, no error message from the Application and no information with the event log. The error also happens when using the cube editor to add a dimension to an empty cube. I am able to browse/process/edit any cube so long as I do not use the method above. The error happens in any database and with any cube. I have tried the following with no change in the problem. They are in no particular order as I have tried the all many different times. 1. Reinstalled Analysis Services 2. Reinstalled service pack 3a for SQL and AS. 3. Tried both Access and SQL repositorys. 4. Tried hotfix olapqfe808.exe 5. Monitored the bug using sysinternals tools - REGMON, FILEMON and PROCESSMON with no apparent or easy to understand error message or problem dll. 6. Searched Microsoft Support with no comparable knowledge base article 7. Searched Newsgroups. 8. Reset all Analysis Services defaults 9. Changed location of data and temp directories. 10. Deleted all AS objects and restored archived versions. I am hoping there is a hotfix to deal with this problem. The only mildy similar problem reported on MS support is this which describes the analysis manager disappering. http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;311873 To progress my work I have been using the DSO/XML scripter tool and manually writing the XML to create cubes/dimensions - as you can imagine this is tiresome and does not really address the problem. Thanks for your help |

Yes, but there is a known bug with the cube editor and the TabletPC that you are running into. If memory serves me right, it had to do with some legacy VB code which was needed by the cube editor for it's UI, but the TabletPC didn't port. Hopefully there is someone from PSS listening on this thread who could comment. You might try coming into the box via a route where the tablet functions are disabled, e.g. by term serving into yourself, using Virtual PC, etc. I know that isn't the answer you were hoping for . . . sorry. -- Dave Wickert [MSFT] dwickert (AT) online (DOT) microsoft.com Program Manager BI SystemsTeam SQL BI Product Unit (Analysis Services) -- This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. Hi, As Dave had said, it is an known issue for us. Research reveals that this is a known issue Visual Studio 98 RAD with any application that uses a WinEvent hook and uses omctl32.ocx. The problem is in the ComCtl32.ocx which is no longer supported. If the mscomctl.ocx (Windows Common Controls 6.0) are used then the problem does not occur. I hope the hotfix in following document will contribute you more in this issue, asking a hotfix from PSS will be a free case. FIX: Access Violation in Comctl32.ocx on Windows 2000 or Later http://support.microsoft.com/?id=827217 Thank you for your patience and cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to let me know. We are here to be of assistance!
