Default Archive just a single partition on a cube? - 12-07-2004 , 08:15 PM

Is there anyway to archive a single partition on a cube?

Every month, I'd like to archive and remove the oldest partition a cube and
back that up to tape.

Anyone done this before? What would you suggest?

As far as I know there is no way to archive a single partition, or even
single cube for that matter.

I feel that the best one can do is use DSO to generate the definition of the
partition (just as the DSO XML utility does) and back it up. Of course, you
would also write the DSO code to be able to from the defintion. You will have
to process the partition which assumes that you will have the source data
available at time of restore.

Hope it helps.
I am also relatively new to this, let's see if anyone else replies.

I did not do that before.

However, I suggest you can go to the folder that holds AS data. The cube
data and their partitions are quite organized according to OS naming
convention. MS web has pages to describe that. I feel you can achieve the
goal by manipulating those files.
