Default Archive Analysis Services Database on 64-bit - 09-08-2004 , 04:18 PM

Does anyone know how to archive an OLAP database running Analysis
Services on 64-bit Windows 2003 Server? When I look in the C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Analysis Services\Bin\ directory on the 64-bit server
the msmdarch.exe files is not there!

Now, I know that there are not any 64-bit client tools (a.k.a.
Analysis Manager) available for MSAS, but I have to believe that there
is a way to backup an OLAP database in a 64-bit environment.
According to the following MSDN Knowledgebase acrticle
http://support.microsoft.com/default...312399&sd=tech
this should apply to Analysis Services 64-bit as well as Analysis
Services 32-bit. If you look at the bottom of the page you will see
that it says that it applies to Analysis Services 64-bit.

Can I just copy the msmdarch.exe file to the 64-bit server and use it
or do I have to run msmdarch.exe on a 32-bit server and point it to
the 64-bit server?

Please help!

For 64-bit servers *all* administration, including archive/restore, must be
done remotely from a 32-bit workstation -- this is true for all of the
entire SQL Server components. You won't see SQL Enterprise Manager which can
do an interactive backup natively on 64-bit either.

Thanks Dave...Not that answer that I wanted to hear but I guess it
does make sense. I appreciate the help. Until next time...
