Default Analysis Services vs Cognos Transformer - 03-11-2005 , 05:05 AM

I am trying to put forth a business case at work to switch from Cognos
Transformer for cube building to Analysis Services. I have found a multitude
of reasons to switch, but there are powers against me.

The main argument against the switch is performance. I know this is not an
issue, given MSAS's scalability and performance enhancing features, but need
evidence to prove so.

Are there any benchmarks or comparative studies out there that I could use
to fuel the fire? I would appreciate any information offered.

Thanks in advance
Glenn

Difficult situation for you :-)

I think the performance is not a good argument. But the administration time
spent and features are good one.

Also:
Who decide? - if the person in charge prefer Cognos, too bad
There is anything you can't do today with Cognos?
There is any specific feature in the future supported only by MS? (like
Real-time OLAP, complex MDX calculations, wide range of olap tool)
What is the current expertise in the company?

But I have no white paper regarding the 2 products.

Actually, as the author of both The OLAP Report and The OLAP Surveys, I
can tell you that this information is in The OLAP Surveys
(www.survey.com/olap). The data does show that Analysis Services users
reported better query performance and had fewer complaints about slow
performance than PowerPlay users.
