Default Analysis Services -Unable to locate resource dll msolap80.rll - 10-29-2005 , 11:16 PM

I have installed Analysis Services Version: 8.00.194
stand alone (i.e. without SQL server) to use it with Access databases only.
When I try to define a cube using the wizard, things work fine until getting
to define a dimension.
At the final "dimension stage" I get the error “Unable to locate resource
dll msolap80.rll”.

I checked and the MSOLAP80.RLL is located at
“C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Ole DB\resources\1033”
with version 8.0.760.0

I found a “related” file MSOLAP80.DLL located in
“C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Ole DB”
having the same version.
I copied MSOLAP80.RLL to the same folder but it didn’t help (restarted AS).

Any suggestion would be highly appreciated,
Thanks

Gaston

Hi Gaston,

First of all I strongly recommend you to install at least SP3 (ver
8.0.760) or better SP4 (ver 8.0.2039) and see if the problem persists.
I would say installing SP3 or SP4 is a must when working with SQL
Server and/or Analysis Services 2000.

Secondly, it looks to me like a language problem - your OS language
might be different from 1033 i.e. English-US.

A quick-and-dirty try would be to create a new resource folder
corresponding to your local language, like for example C:\Program
Files\Common Files\System\Ole DB\resources\1036 for French, then copy
MSOLAP80.RLL there.

You can find a complete list of language IDs at
http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/r.../lcid-all.mspx.

Another possible solution would be to install a local version - I don't
have any experience with this.

Kind regards,

Eugen
