Default Analysis Services "connection lost" errors - 05-05-2005 , 05:50 AM

Hi,

We have a Windows service that creates a new olap cube partition every 5
minutes in a normal processing cycle. There are some auxiliary apps that read
data from the cube as well.

On many occasions, we see that the MS OLAP service crashes or our service is
unable to connect to it. Errors such as the following appear:

"CubeManager::CreatePartition: Error occurred during cube update:
System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80010105): The server threw an
exception.
at DSO.ServerClass.Connect(String ServerName)"

or

"Error occurred during refreshing olap database OLAPDBNAME.
System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80040075): Connection to the
server is lost"

We then start to see errors such as:

"Error occurred during refreshing olap database OLAPDBNAME.
System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80040050): Cannot open
connection to Analysis server '<machinename>'.
Cannot connect to the server '<machinename>'. The server is either not
started or too busy.
at DSO.ServerClass.Connect(String ServerName) "

Sometimes, these errors go away on restarting our service or the OLAP
service. Sometimes, they just persist until the cube/dimensions are
reprocessed.

I have seen similar errors appear on this group in the past and the usual
remedy has been to reinstall ASP3. We have done that repeatedly, but the
problem recurs nevertheless after a while.

We use both Win 2K server & Win 2K3 server. The problem was prevalent mainly
on 2K but now appears on some of our 2K3 servers too.

Could someone please provide any tips to deal with this?

Thanks,
Ramanand

Hi Ramanand,

Did you solve this problem because I am also experiencing this and need some
help.

Thanks a lot!

Hi Carrie,

I'm afraid not - couldn't find any solutions to this one.
