Default Analysis Services AutoRestart itself - 02-06-2006 , 01:57 AM

We are running SQL2000 Enterprise Edition, Analysis Services SP3a.
AS repository is in the SQL2000 database.

The AS auto restarts by itself, and database backup (through SQLAgent) was
the only activity going on at that time (it was after office hours). System
utilization is very low. The service went down and came backup after the
Repository db was finished backup, while the other DBs are still being
backedup. AS does not go down everyday though the backup is done everyday.

Anyone knows if backup causes any locks on the Repository causing As to go
down, and come back once the lock is released ?
Is there any particular procedure defined for backing up SQL2000 AS
Repository DB ?

Thanks,
Rukmani.

No, backing up a SQL database has little effect on users of that
database and will not create locks which would cause AS to restart. Is
there any chance that there were some queries or other activity running
on the AS box?
