Default Analysis Service on Win XP? - 08-27-2003 , 06:12 PM

[Sorry if this post is a duplicate, but I can't see my original message]

Does anyone know if SQL Server Analysis Service can be installed on a
Windows XP Pro computer? I just installed the desktop version of SQL Server
2000 on a new laptop PC, and I'd like to do local OLAP development without
dependencies on a remote server if at all possible. Any ideas?

Thanks!

I re-installed Analysis Services, but the same error occurred. Then I
deleted the two mining models and tried processing FoodMart again. This
time, a couple of the cubes failed to be processed (they worked before I
deleted the mining models).
The reason why couple of cubes failed is because they use mining dimension,
and since there is no mining model anymore - they cannot process that
dimension.
Can you upgrade to SP1 (or better of to SP3) and see if it helps ? There are
some known problems with AS2K RTM version on XP.

OK, so you're suggesting that I apply the SQL Server SP3 to my XP install? I
assume that the normal SP3 I download will be compatible with the Personal
Edition of SQL Server and Analysis Services, yes?

Thanks..

Hello,

I downloaded both SP3 files. I tried installing the first one, but the
installer keeps aborting. It says I have a "logon failure". I'm installing
on a Win XP Pro pc with one user account that I use to login to the PC. I
tried selecting both "windows authentication" and "SQL server
authentication" during the SP3 install, but I get the same error both times.
When I first installed SQL Server and Analysis Services (Personal Ed.) I
specified Windows authentication because I read somewhere that Analysis
Services required it. I made sure to stop the SQL Server service before
installing.

Help!

There are actually two SP3 downloads - one for SQL Server and one for
Analysis Services. Best is to apply both of them.

As a follow-up to this forwarded message, I decided to remove all SQL Server
software and start from scratch. I just installed SQL Server 2000 Personal
Edition on my Win XP computer. Now I can't even start the service because it
fails due to login failure. Not sure why. This time I selected Mixed Mode
authentication. I have a single user on this PC. When I reboot the computer,
SQL does not start. When I try to start it, I get login failure (it doesn't
ask me to login).

Any ideas?
