Default Analysis service sizing - 02-17-2005 , 09:06 PM

Hello,
1. I need to create an OLAP DB with 3 TB data. I will be using 4 CPU
3.0 GHz, 8 GB RAM machine. Is it enough? What are deciding factors?
2. Is there any guidelines document on this anywhere? I couldn't find
one of Microsoft site.

Thanks and regards

There is a project called "T3".

Several additional pointers.
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro.../ansvcspg.mspx
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro.../anservog.mspx

WRT: disk storage, MOLAP storage compresses data significantly. It is
typically 4:1; sometimes even down to 6(or more):1 -- so your 3TB RDBMS is
probably ~750GB for MOLAP disk storage

WRT: memory -- Analysis Services is not AWE-aware -- thus it will not use
more than 3GB of memory for itself. Thus it + Windows won't use much more
than 4GB.

WRT: #CPUs -- We will use as many CPUs as you give us -- the more the
merrier.

Hope that helps.
