Default Analysis server takes 99% of my cpu - 05-11-2004 , 02:52 PM

I am having a problem similar to an earlier posting about a Win2K
machines. I have 2 computers, one on XP home and the other XP Pro.

Whenever I turn on Olap services, my cpu use goes through the roof.
This is a new problem and I have no idea where it came from. It
happened on my XP home machine first. Then it happened on the XP Pro
machine after I rebuilt it.

Both were running fine with SQL 2K Dev edition SP3 and Analysis
services with SP3. I had to rebuild my XP Pro machine from scratch
recently so it is a very fresh build. Latest operating system updates
are all loaded.

I do not have IIS running anywhere.

Can someone please help? All searches everywhere are showing nothing
for XP, and only recommend service pack updates. Do I need SQL2K
SP3a? I'll try that in the mean time, but don't expect it to make any
difference.

Further investigation has revealed:

If I reinstall SQL SP3a, then the cpu drain goes away, and the service
looks fine. However, then when I run Analysis Services Manager, it
says I can't connect to the server because it is too busy. Standard
problem which most suggest is solved by installing SQL ASP3. When I
reinstall that, the performance problem returns.

Since this is an XP Home machine, I don't have user groups, etc.

I have not tried this on my XP Pro machine, which is at home and I am
wasting work time fixing my laptop.

Any ideas?
