Default Analysis Server Installation - 09-07-2005 , 04:32 AM

Hi,

I tried to install Analysis Server 2000 on a Windows 2000 SP4 Advanced
Server system. This system also houses MS SQL Server 2000 / SP3a.

Before I started installing AS, I stopped all services (SQL Server, SQL
Server Agent etc). Initially it runs ok. But subsequently the installation
screen just hangs. After a wait of around 30-45 minutes, I decided to check
the Task manager for any activity and there weren't any. Subsequently I had
to manually kill the installation, restart the system again. After this
again when I tried to install, I had the same problem.

But when I tried to install AS in different OS (Windows XP SP2, Windows 2003
SP1, etc) the installation seems to run fine.

I am at a loss to understand why the installation fails in this particular
instance. Can someone help me please.

Thanks in advance,

Harish Mohanbabu

Hello Harish,

This issue may occur if there is some third party programs running on the
server has conflicts with AS setup program. If applicable, stop all
services except these services:

Alerter
Computer Browser
DHCP Client
Directory Replicator
Event Log
License
Logging
Net Logon
Network DDE
Network DDE DSDM
Plug n Play
NT LM Security Support Provider
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Service
Server
Spooler
TCP/IP Netbios Helper
Workstation

Try to install AS at this time to test.

If the issue persists, you may want to check %windir%\olapstp.log for
errors in setup process.
