Default Analysis Server "Hung" (sort of) - 06-01-2005 , 11:25 AM

I am running Analysis Server on SQL 2000 (sp4). I have noticed that some of
the longer queries (600+ seconds) seem to "die" on the Analysis Server. By
die, I mean that the CPU is chugging (one of two processors is pegged), and
there are current locks, but I can no longer see any queries, or any cache
hits, in Performance Monitor, nor is there any network activity of which to
speak.

Is this normal behavior? What is the system doing during this "non-querying"
time? Are there any books or documents on diagnosing problems with MDX
queries, or tuning your Analysis Server -- something like the Hitchhiker's
Guide to SQL Server? I would really like cut these long-running query times
but I am not sure where to begin.

Another thing I noticed is that the Current process threads counter is
slowly creeping up. It is now 64 and counting, even though the system rarely
uses these threads during normal operation.
