Default Advanced Properties for Dimesions - 07-18-2005 , 01:07 PM

Hi,
I am currently using Analysis services. Once I finish building a cube, I
would like to modify certain properties for a dimension using the advanced
properties tab. Most of the properties are grayed out. would there be a
reason for this.

Env: MS Analysis Services 2000 with SP4.

Thank you
Ramdas

Hi Ram,

if you are using shared dimensions in a cube, these dimensions cannot
be altered in the cube designer because they could be used in other
cubes at the same time. Changing the dimension would have an effect on
all cubes which use this dimension. However, you can change shared
dimensions in the dimension designer (getting a warning indicating
which cubes will be affected when you save the changes).

Typically the "graying" out of some properties means that it cannot be
edited in that environment. For example, the aggregation usage property is
not set in the dimension editor, but rather only when you add the dimension
to a cube and then look at the dimension in the cube editor -- i..e. it is a
property of the dimension when it exists within a cube -- not as an
independent, standalone dimension by-itself.
