Default 64 bit analysis server - 02-11-2004 , 06:02 AM

Hi,

as there are no 64-bit management tools available for sql
and analysis-server, i try to connect to the server from a
workstation with the 32 bit tools.

When i try to connect with the enterprise manager i works
when i try it with sql authentication.

But when i try to register the server with analysis
manager, it fails to connect.
I get the error "Connot open connection to analysis
server 'node'. Error in data [possible data corruption].

When i connect trought excel via iis it works, but there
are no cubes available.

Also there is no Active Directory available, is it then
possible to connect with analysis manager? Or is it
necessary that there is an active directory for windows
authentication?

Several possibilities. First is that the 32-bit workstation must be on SP3.
This is because AS 64-bit is based on the SP3 code base and SP3 machines
require other SP3 machines to administer them. Second, both machines must be
in the same domain (or have a trust relationship between them) and the
interactive NT user account on the 32-bit machine must be a domain account
that is a member of the OLAP Administrator local NT group on the Analysis
server.

This and many other topics are discussed in the "Getting Started with SQL
Server 2000 64-bit Analysis Services" white paper at:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro...e/AnSvcs64.asp

Hope this helps.

Hi,

thank you for the information, i resolved the issue with
creating on both the server and workstation the same
userid with the same password, the userid i created on the
server i have put him into the OLAP Administrator Local NT
group. I log on to the workstation with that userid and
started analysis manager, i know it is not the right way
of working but it solved my problem.(waiting for the 64-
bit management tools)

Just to set your expectations :-)
There are no plans to have the tools run natively on 64-bit.
Remote adminstration is how SQL Server 2000 is configured for 64-bit servers
(both on the RDBMS and with Analysis Services).
