64,000 LIMIT in a virtual dimension

For virtual dimensions is there an equivalent way to do the same function as
'automatic member groupings' which is available for star dimensions?

I am running into the 64,000 member for a parent in a virual dimension.
However, automatic member grouping is not available. I can not even
reference the member group that I added to the star dimension that it is
build off of to use in the virtual dimension.

Is the only way to fix this problem to add another regular level to the
virutal dimension?
