Default Unable to open Step output file. The step failed. - 11-09-2006 , 11:07 AM

Hi,

I have many DTS jobs that run during the night. Last night three jobs failed
with the same error "Unable to open Step output file. The step failed." What
does this error message means? Any help willbe highly appreciated. Thanks.

It could mean that the pre-existing file was open by some other
person/program. It could mean that permissions on the folder or for the
account DTS is running under have changed.

What exactly is step output file? Is this referring to the job step log file?
Thanks in advance.

In Enterprise Mangler, if you open the Job, then click on the Step to open
it, click on the [Advanced] tab. There is a location to enter the Output
path/file. (Output files can be used to collect the results of queries,
etc.)

Thanks a lot Arnie. It was a permission issue on the folder where the output
file was located.
